Gangwon 2024 Launches First-Ever Metaverse Experience for Fans!


The organizers of the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Gangwon, South Korea, announced the first-ever metaverse on Thursday, advancing the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to make sporting events more participatory for spectators worldwide.

Fans will be able to engage with the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) like never before because of his new technical innovation.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Gangwon 2024 Organising Committee (YOGOC), and the Gangwon-do Province, with the support of South Korea’s Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology (MSIT), announce the launch of a Winter YOG Gangwon 2024 metaverse as an extension of the Gangwon-do Province’s Metaverse.

This one-of-a-kind virtual environment provides a variety of interactive experiences to users all over the world, assisting the IOC in making Gangwon 2024 as inclusive and accessible as possible, particularly for young fans, according to a press statement issued on Thursday.

The Gangwon 2024 Metaverse allows fans to interact with the YOG in new and interesting ways, from virtual tours of the venues to games and challenges where fans may compete against other users in online mini-games of ski jumping, bobsleigh, and curling.

Users in the Republic of Korea will also be able to watch athletic events live. The metaverse also allows users to connect and communicate with other fans from across the world, as well as to be inspired to try new winter sports and learn about Olympic principles.

To make the metaverse as accessible as possible, it includes automated translation in six languages (Korean, English, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Chinese), as well as the ability for users to build bespoke avatars for their digital experience.

This features the opportunity to select from 30 different characters with various customization options such as haircuts, body forms, dress selections, and emotions.
