Walmart and Unity to Bring Immersive Commerce to Games, Virtual Worlds and Apps!


Walmart and Unity have collaborated on the integration of immersive commerce into games and apps. It allows gamers to purchase tangible things straight from within games.

This allows creators to sell tangible objects in real-time 3D experiences across more than 20 gaming and interactive platforms, enabling developers and creators to connect customers’ virtual and practical lifestyles while also introducing a new revenue channel for developers.

It’s a partnership that allows the world’s largest retailer to make inroads into digital commerce in tandem with game engine company Unity, which has over 1.1 million developers using its Unity editor each month.

At CES 2024, the large tech trade show in Las Vegas next week, developers can explore Walmart’s Unity SDK, which facilitates the integration of immersive commerce into their projects. The intriguing aspect of this transaction is that it appears to work. Rather than constructing a metaverse mall that may become a ghost town, this agreement allows commerce to take place where people currently are—inside games.

Walmart has also invested in other technologies, such as artificial intelligence and augmented reality, in addition to virtual gaming. The store stated in October that it intends to employ AI and AR to improve its search functionality, assist buyers in prioritizing product attributes, and browse review summaries.
